Morning Makeover: Revamping your Morning Routine in 2024

One of my goals in this new year is to get a better handle on my mornings. As a mom, sometimes it feels like I hit the ground running in the morning and never catch up. Anyone else know the feeling?!

One of the ways I plan to get my mornings under control is to have a quick and easy, healthy breakfast ready to go! Protein overnight oats are one of the best make ahead breakfast options that's still packed with nutrients to get your day off on the right foot.

Protein overnight oats recipe:

  • 2 cups oats

  • 2-4 tablespoons chia or flax seeds

  • 1-2 cups of milk (depending on how thin you like your oatmeal; the oats and chia seeds will soak up a lot of the liquid)

  • Fruit of choice (I use frozen wild blueberries)

  • Honey to taste Simmer on stove top until combined

  • Layer the oatmeal, then the fruit mixture and top with the remaining oatmeal. Makes 2-4 servings.

Optional: Top with oatmeal toppings of choices such as nuts, nut butter, cinnamon, etc. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours or overnight

Planning the Day Along with a nourishing breakfast, planning out your day is crucial for a successful beginning.

One way to organize your day is to prioritize your tasks. Make a list of all the things you need to accomplish and rank them in order of importance. This will help you focus on the most pressing tasks first. It's also important to schedule breaks throughout the day to avoid burnout and maintain productivity. Additionally, try to limit distractions by turning off notifications on your phone or computer and setting aside specific times to check emails and messages. By taking the time to organize and plan out your day, you'll find that you have more time and energy to focus on the things that matter most.

Schedule in Activity

Ideally you would knock out your exercise in the morning. This will provide energy for the day and make you feel productive right off the bat. If that’s not an option, be sure to schedule exercise into your day to be sure it is a priority and are mentally and physically prepared.

Having a set time for exercise can also help with consistency. When exercise is part of your daily routine, it becomes easier to stick with it. You might also find it helpful to plan out what type of exercise you will do each day. This can help you stay motivated and prevent boredom.

If you're someone who struggles with time management, scheduling your exercise can help you make the most of the time you have available. By planning ahead, you can ensure that you have everything you need for your workout and that you're not wasting time or risk giving up if you're unsure what to do for your workout. So, whether you're a morning person or prefer to exercise later in the day, make sure to schedule your workout time and stick with it. Your body and mind will thank you!

Having a plan for your day is a game changer. You will be able to get ahead and live proactive instead of reactive. This will lead to you feeling more in control of your life!

Two additional tips that can make a big difference in your day: 1. Drink at least 8 oz of water first thing in the morning before coffee or eating

2. Stay off of your phone (especially email and social media) for the first hour or so of your morning.

I hope this is as helpful for you as it has been for me. I'm here for you and I believe in you!
